Avoca is an AI-powered conversational agent platform transforming how home service companies engage customers. The company is a Series B startup backed by Kleiner Perkins, Meritech Capital, and General Catalyst, with $125M raised and a $1B valuation. Avoca has grown 10x in 2025 and now operates 170+ employees across NYC headquarters and Santa Barbara. As a Field Engineer on the Pre-Sales team, you will be the technical builder behind deal wins and enablement. You own two core responsibilities: (1) integration work that proves technical feasibility to prospects and partners during the sales cycle, and (2) demo tooling that enables the go-to-market team to tell a credible, product-accurate story. You will work at the intersection of Sales, Partnerships, Product, Engineering, and AI, partnering with Account Executives and the Partnerships team as their technical counterpart. Unlike Sales Engineers who lead customer-facing technical narratives, this role goes deeper on the build: you will stand up working integrations against unfamiliar APIs and turn them into repeatable demo assets. This is a pre-sales role without closing quota, but your work directly determines whether technical buyers and integration partners trust Avoca's capabilities. Key responsibilities include: - Own technical scoping and feasibility for pre-sales opportunities and partner integrations, translating ambiguous requirements into concrete implementation plans - Build working integrations against third-party APIs, CRMs, field service management platforms, telephony systems, and partner ecosystems using REST APIs, JSON, authentication, and webhooks - Build and maintain demo and sandbox tooling for the GTM organization, creating reusable demo environments, fixture data, and internal tools - Configure and tune Avoca's conversational AI for demo and POC scenarios, including prompt engineering for real customer workflows - Serve as technical counterpart to Account Executives and Partnerships in prospect and partner meetings, establishing credibility from C-suite to developers - Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during evaluations, pilots, and POCs to protect at-risk deals - Partner with Product and Engineering to feed integration gaps and field learnings into the roadmap - Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering and Implementation for production deployment handoffs Requirements: - 4+ years in a technical, customer-facing role: Solutions/Sales Engineering, Forward Deployed/Deployment Engineering, Implementation or Integration Engineering, Solutions Consulting, or software engineering with meaningful customer exposure - Hands-on ability to build: proficient in TypeScript/JavaScript (Next.js, React, Node/Fastify); ships production-grade code and can independently stand up integrations or demo tools - Practical experience integrating against third-party APIs and enterprise systems: REST, JSON, authentication/OAuth, webhooks, and comfort with unfamiliar or incomplete API documentation - Working SQL and solid grasp of relational data for modeling, transforming, and wiring realistic data for integrations and demo environments - Experience owning something technical end-to-end from requirements through build, testing, and rollout - Strong technical judgment, troubleshooting instincts, and ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences - Product mindset toward internal tooling, treating demo and sandbox infrastructure as a product with users - Familiarity with AI-powered products, conversational AI platforms, or data-driven systems (bonus: prompt engineering, call center/communications platforms, CRM or FSM integrations, or Partnerships/channel support experience) - Self-motivated, entrepreneurial, comfortable in fast-moving high-growth environments - Full-time in-office presence at NYC location required
