Banyan Software is seeking an Executive Director to lead its newly established Foundation, endowed with $100 million in Banyan stock. This is a strategic leadership role focused on defining the Foundation's long-term vision, funding thesis, and impact strategy across climate, sustainability, and equity initiatives.
You will serve as the Foundation's primary strategic owner and spokesperson, accountable for its direction, programs, grantee relationships, and external voice. While based in Toronto with access to Banyan's corporate functions, you will not initially manage a dedicated Foundation team; instead, you will leverage support from corporate marketing, communications, and finance teams to focus on vision, strategy, and storytelling.
Key responsibilities include: defining the Foundation's strategic direction and capital allocation framework; designing innovative program models (potentially departing from traditional grantmaking); serving as the primary internal and external spokesperson; building trust with Banyan's 100+ portfolio companies, employees, and external partners; embedding the Foundation's mission within Banyan's culture; and mobilizing employees and portfolio company leaders to contribute to the Foundation's work.
This role offers genuine autonomy in early-stage strategy development, a $100 million permanent capital mandate (not a pilot), and a built-in audience of over 100 operating companies. You will represent the Foundation at high-visibility settings, including Banyan's Global Leadership Conference, and have latitude to design programs that best serve the mission rather than adhering to traditional models.
