Anthropic is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager to oversee EHS across the full lifecycle of data center sites—from construction and commissioning through live operations. This is a specialized, field-facing program-ownership role where contractor safety is central. Most hands-on work at these sites is performed by general contractors, subcontractors, and specialty trades; your impact comes through setting expectations, qualifying and overseeing partners, and holding multi-employer worksites to safety standards.
You will be Anthropic's safety presence on the ground through active construction, commissioning transitions, and operational EHS once a site is live. Core responsibilities include building and running contractor safety programs: prequalification and selection, safety plan and method-statement review, site-specific orientation, high-hazard work permitting, and audits and inspections. On multi-employer worksites, you'll set clear expectations, coordinate across contractors and subcontractors, and hold every party accountable for safe work.
You'll own EHS across construction, commissioning, and operations phases. During construction, you'll manage high-hazard exposures data centers involve—electrical and energized systems, working at height, heavy equipment, cranes and rigging, excavation, and fire and life safety—governed by OSHA construction (29 CFR 1926) requirements. Through commissioning, you'll manage safety of energization and testing. As sites go live, you'll transition programs to operational safety under general industry standards (29 CFR 1910), including electrical safety and NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, and arc flash.
You'll investigate incidents, near misses, and injuries, drive them to root cause, and follow through on corrective actions. You'll own EHS record keeping and reporting, including OSHA requirements and contractor-injury tracking. You'll be the owner's safety representative reviewing readiness, walking sites, escalating unsafe work, and stopping it when necessary. You'll drive consistent safety culture across geographically distributed sites and different partner organizations, build emergency preparedness, run or oversee drills, and ensure lessons from one site reach others. You'll select and manage external support—third-party safety, industrial hygiene, and audit partners—and contribute to site design and safety standards.
As the data center footprint grows, you may build and lead a team to support these programs. You'll partner closely with the EHS Lead and work with construction, infrastructure, operations, Security, and Legal partners, as well as contractor and operator organizations running the sites.
