Salary: USD 70,000 - 100,000 / annual
Voyager Space is a defense, national security, and space technology company developing mission-critical solutions for national security and space exploration. The EHS Specialist role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving environmental health and safety programs across all EHS disciplines, including occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental compliance, process safety, and emergency response.
The position reports to the Safety and Compliance Manager and is located onsite in Penrose, CO with eventual transition to Pueblo, CO. Key responsibilities include:
• EHS Program Management: Develop and execute audit and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance programs, policies, and procedures across the organization.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, ATF explosives, DOT and PHMSA, DoD Contractor Safety Manual 4145.26, DODM 5100.76 (AA&E), environmental regulations, and ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards.
• Risk & Hazard Identification: Conduct risk assessments and hazard evaluations for new processes, equipment, and materials. Lead incident investigations with root cause analysis and develop corrective/preventive actions.
• Environmental & Industrial Hygiene: Support environmental compliance programs, exposure strategy development, chemical hazard evaluations, and SDS management.
• Emergency Response: Maintain HazMat readiness programs, coordinate with external agencies, and actively participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in EHS with 2+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 1+ year, or High School Diploma with 5+ years of progressive EHS experience. Demonstrated experience across multiple EHS disciplines, strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT HazMat, ATF explosives, and environmental regulations, experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations, and ability to influence safety performance through leadership are required.
Preferred qualifications include experience in chemical, space, or defense manufacturing and relevant EHS certifications including HazMat/Emergency Response training.
Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for state and federal explosives licenses (21+), comply with Drug-Free Workplace Act requirements, and pass background investigations. Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) and eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR regulations.
