As Engineering Team Lead, Backend, you will own the core platform infrastructure that powers Mistral's AI products. This is a hybrid technical and leadership role where you split time between hands-on coding and strategic team management.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining reliable, performant backend infrastructure that supports internal and external users
- Translating product vision into technical architecture and implementation
- Removing blockers and creating an environment where your team can focus on shipping solutions
- Owning the full software development lifecycle from design through deployment
- Ensuring high code quality through reviews, testing, and automation
- Planning projects, setting roadmaps, allocating tasks, and managing deadlines
- Collaborating with Product, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Growing the team through hiring, onboarding, and mentorship
- Improving developer experience and system reliability
You should have:
- Strong proficiency in Python and at least one web framework (FastAPI, Django, Flask), plus experience with C#, Golang, or TypeScript
- Proven experience building and leading engineering teams
- Deep knowledge of large-scale distributed systems, databases, caching, and messaging systems
- Track record of shipping end-to-end products with an ownership mindset
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, Business)
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and attention to detail
- Low-ego, team-first attitude
