Salary: USD 250,000 - 350,000 / annual
Edison Scientific builds and deploys AI scientist agents to accelerate science and the development of new medicines. The company is run by scientists and engineers from leading institutions across biology, physics, chemistry, and AI.
As Engineering Manager for Enterprise Cloud Deployments, you will lead and scale the cloud team that powers Edison's autonomous scientific discovery platform. Your primary focus is managing the team responsible for "bring your own cloud" (BYOC) deployments—enabling enterprise clients with strict compliance and security requirements to run Edison's platform within their own cloud infrastructure. These on-premise deployments unlock uniquely valuable datasets that, combined with Edison's scientific platform, enable enterprise partners to power novel drug and materials discovery campaigns at scale.
You will manage a 5-person cloud engineering team, owning their mentorship, career development, and hiring. Key responsibilities include: leading client interactions and onboarding for enterprise deployments; partnering with forward-deployed engineering teams to set delivery timelines and align on requirements; developing a world-class strategy for secure BYOC deployments; diagnosing and solving bottlenecks in the BYOC process; developing technical and people strategies for scaling engagement capacity; owning technical decision-making for the BYOC product; and managing cross-functional communication between engineering teams and stakeholders.
This role will influence the architecture, operations, and growth of Edison's cloud deployment product, and you will help mentor junior engineers while enabling senior engineers to build world-class software. You'll be instrumental in scaling Edison to serve the largest research organizations in the world.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 4+ years of experience managing an engineering team and leading cross-functional initiatives
- Prior experience working with clients in an enterprise setting
- Proficiency in at least one systems or backend language for operator development and infrastructure tooling
- Deep familiarity with cloud products (AWS/GCP), security, and deployment operations
- Strong understanding of application network architecture including VPCs, DNS, secrets, proxies, etc.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Pulumi, or Crossplane) and GitOps workflows
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with AI applications or scientific computing solutions
- Prior experience in startups or small teams with significant architectural ownership and ambiguity
- Experience scaling systems, teams, or platforms through periods of rapid growth
