Salary: USD 320,000 - 405,000 / annual
Anthropic is seeking an empathetic Engineering Manager to lead a team building internal tools that enhance productivity across the organization. The Business Technology team focuses on creating secure, user-friendly solutions for business-critical use cases, including security, authorization, and automation tools. Many solutions are augmented with Claude to maximize impact and user experience.
In this role, you will lead and grow a team of full-stack engineers, partner closely with internal stakeholders to understand workflows and identify productivity opportunities, and set technical direction for the roadmap. You'll foster a culture of rapid iteration and continuous improvement, champion best practices in API design, security, and UX, and own system reliability and incident response. You'll also hire, develop, and retain top engineering talent.

The company is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco, offering competitive compensation, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, and flexible working hours. REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in an engineering management role
- Track record of building and shipping production full-stack software with focus on usability
- Experience leading teams building and maintaining scalable internal applications and platforms
- Strong technical judgment across modern web development (React, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Go) and cloud technologies (AWS/GCP/Azure)
- Ability to translate ambiguous user needs into clear technical direction and priorities
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with empathy
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a relevant field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building engineering roadmaps aligned with business objectives
- Track record of developing engineers through coaching, mentoring, and structured feedback
- Experience balancing trade-offs across security, privacy, reliability, and UX at scale
- Familiarity with Identity and Access Management tools and security best practices
- Cross-functional collaboration and alignment-building across teams with differing priorities
- Ability to anticipate changing business needs and translate them into adaptive technical strategies
