The Engineering Manager is a hands-on technical leader responsible for driving production-grade solutions across multiple teams. This role combines technical leadership with people management, requiring you to architect solutions, mentor engineers, build proof-of-concepts, and enforce engineering excellence while ensuring systems are secure, compliant, scalable, and high-performing in alignment with healthcare standards.
Key aspects of the role include:
**Technical Leadership & Hands-On Engineering**
Lead end-to-end architecture, development, and delivery of technical solutions for internal and external healthcare systems. Serve as the senior-most engineer for your team: designing components, writing high-quality code, troubleshooting complex issues, and performing rigorous code reviews. Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Cloud, Security, and other engineering teams to define integration strategies and solution blueprints.
**Leadership & Execution**
Demonstrate ability to lead engineers in fast-paced, high-impact environments with strong decision-making and solution-first mindset. Break down complex problems and communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders. Build secure, scalable, high-performing distributed systems.
**AI Integration**
Drive adoption of AI-assisted coding across the team by establishing how engineers use agentic development tools for scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, and legacy code comprehension. Define code review standards that keep generated code secure and maintainable, holding the bar on engineering judgment over output volume. Own engineering practices for building AI-backed features, including context and retrieval design over WelbeHealth data, evaluation and monitoring, PHI-safe prompting and logging, and human review points.
**Business Acumen**
Engage business and clinical end users directly by sitting in on their workflows, building fluency in the PACE model, and translating learnings into technical direction. Push back when simpler solutions better serve participants.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (Master's Degree preferred)
- Minimum 10 years of object-oriented software development experience with C#, .NET Core, and React.js
- 4+ years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members
- Deep Azure cloud experience, including API Apps, Logic Apps, Functions, REST services, and Azure Cosmos DB
- Experience designing and delivering microservices architecture at scale
- Strong DevSecOps principles with security built into code, CI/CD, and cloud from the start
- Automated testing discipline and experience designing REST APIs spanning multiple data sources
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and practices (LLM-based developer tooling, code generation, workflow automation)
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with iterative development cycles and rapid proof-of-concept delivery
- Business process management (BPM) experience with Camunda preferred
