Flock is an AI-first insurtech company that uses telematics and real-time data to help fleet customers prevent crashes and improve driver safety. Recently acquired by Admiral (May 2026), the company combines startup agility with the backing of the UK's leading motor insurer.
As Engineering Lead for the Acquisition team, you'll own technical delivery and direction for the team building products that directly drive Flock's growth. You'll work closely with the Product Manager as a co-leader, taking joint ownership of delivery, quality, and outcomes rather than managing through traditional line management.
Key responsibilities include:
**Technical Leadership & Delivery**: Own end-to-end delivery for the Acquisition team, shipping high-quality, well-tested TypeScript code to production. You'll balance reliability, performance, and cost across AWS services while maintaining pragmatic trade-offs.
**Cloud & Infrastructure**: Leverage AWS expertise (Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EventBridge, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch) to support and extend the team's services. Work with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CDK.
**Developer Experience & Standards**: Drive improvements to CI/CD, observability, and release practices. Raise engineering standards through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions. Champion practical testing and type-safe APIs.
**Team Growth & Coaching**: Lead by example through code and mentorship. Coach engineers to raise standards and share ownership of technical direction. Give engineers space to lead projects while asking the right questions to challenge their thinking.
**AI Integration**: Shape how the team uses AI tools and coding agents—from development assistants to agent workflows in review and release—while keeping engineering judgment where it matters.
**Cross-functional Collaboration**: Work closely with the PM and stakeholders to translate business goals into clear technical scope, success metrics, and delivery plans. Represent the team upwards and help define sharply scoped, impactful deliverables.
You'll need proven ability to co-lead alongside a PM, strong hands-on TypeScript and AWS skills, experience improving developer experience and delivery cadence, and confidence using AI development tools daily. Communication skills and pragmatic technical judgment are essential.
