Salary: USD 145,800 - 180,000 / annual
Flashpoint is seeking an Engineering Lead II to take technical ownership of Echosec, Strategic Entity Data, and Identify—a suite of threat intelligence products used by commercial enterprises and government agencies to confront security challenges and reduce risk. You will lead a small, senior, and productive team that ships fast across a Laravel platform, a Python AI service, and a data pipeline ingesting sensitive breach and leak data.
In this role, you will be the engineering half of a partnership with a Product Manager, accountable for technical direction, architecture, and roadmap. You will own the technical strategy for three product surfaces and the architecture connecting them, including the Echosec platform (a mature Laravel application on Kubernetes), a Python AI service powering natural-language search and agentic reporting, and the Strategic Entity Data API and ingestion pipeline. You will grow a team of senior engineers, own their career paths and promotions, and represent the team in KPI reviews, commitment reviews, and cross-team architecture forums.
Within 30 days, you will know your team, understand the customer request flow, and share your first honest assessment. Within 60 days, you will establish the team's operating rhythm and align on next quarter's roadmap with your Product Manager partner. By 90 days, you will have shaped the technical direction for all three products and be running the quarterly commitment cycle.
You will partner directly with the Product Manager and other engineering teams across Flashpoint, taking the AI layer further and making hard sequencing calls on cost, scale, and data quality. This is a role for an engineering leader who never stopped being an engineer—someone who earns their team's trust by being in the code often enough, resists the urge to rewrite mature applications, and treats growth and retention as part of the job.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience managing engineers as a direct manager, including performance conversations, career development, promotion advocacy, and hiring
- Led a team of 5–8 engineers that owned a customer-facing product end to end, accountable for roadmap, architecture, and on-call rotation
- Production experience with a mature server-side web application at scale; PHP and Laravel specifically, or comparable depth in another framework with genuine willingness to work in Laravel
- Hands-on experience running services on Kubernetes with managed Postgres and Redis in a public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience owning production reliability: on-call rotations, incident command, post-incident review, and discipline to close resulting actions
- Inherited a mature application you did not write, resisted rewriting it, and made it measurably safer to change
- Owned a quarterly commitment cycle end to end: scoped work, published dates, and raised flags early when something slipped
- Treat growth and retention as part of the job
