Panthalassa is a renewable energy and ocean technology company developing ultra-low-cost renewable energy from ocean sources for computing and renewable fuels. The company is a public benefit corporation backed by leading venture capitalists, philanthropic investors, and university endowments, with a team drawn from SpaceX, Blue Origin, Tesla, Google, and similar organizations. As Director, Strategy, you will lead capital formation and investor relations for the company as it raises capital, develops commercial partnerships, and enters the public stage. Reporting to the EVP, Strategy and working closely with the CEO, you will own much of the day-to-day work behind financing and investor engagement: building financial models, preparing materials, managing diligence processes, writing investor updates, and maintaining the data room. You will help shape how the company describes itself to investors and partners and articulate its views on energy markets, hard tech, financial markets, and government policy. This is initially a senior individual-contributor role on a small team, with the expectation that you may hire and lead a team as the company expands. The role is global in scope; deals span time zones and often require work outside standard hours and on weekends with little notice. You are expected to be available when needed and will have flexibility to manage your schedule around the work. Key responsibilities include: managing investor relationships between financings; setting and executing financing strategy; building and owning financial models for capitalization and operating scenarios; producing investor letters, board materials, and correspondence to exceptionally high standards; developing presentation decks that combine analytical rigor with visual clarity; tracking market intelligence on relevant companies, investors, and policy; using AI extensively to accelerate research while maintaining editorial control; representing Panthalassa in investor and partner meetings; and recruiting and developing strategy hires as the function grows. You should have exceptional judgment, deep knowledge of deal structures and cap table mechanics, and the ability to move fluently among analytical tools (Excel, Google Sheets, Figma, Airtable). You must hold informed views on AI, compute infrastructure, and energy and be able to defend them among domain experts. You should be comfortable working across time zones and business cultures, adjusting communication style without sacrificing clarity. Strong writing is essential; you will be asked to share samples. REQUIREMENTS: - At least 4 years of relevant experience in startups, venture capital, investment banking, management consulting, or comparable analytical environment - Expert command of Excel and PowerPoint; ease with Google Sheets, Keynote, and Figma - Excellent writing ability - Fluency with financing structures, cap tables, valuation, and scenario modeling - Deep working knowledge of AI infrastructure and energy, including major companies, investors, technologies, and policy debates - Experience working with investors, partners, or colleagues across countries and time zones - Demonstrated record of taking responsibility for outcomes under tight deadlines, incomplete information, and high stakes DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience at a growth-stage company in technology, energy, or infrastructure - Experience inside a founder-led company or working closely with one as investor or adviser - Experience building and managing a small team
