Strava is seeking a Director of Strategic Sourcing & Procurement to build and lead the procurement function from the ground up. This is a founding role with significant autonomy to design the operating model, commercial strategy, systems, and governance that will define how Strava sources and manages vendor relationships across all spend categories.
You will own the end-to-end procurement strategy, with particular focus on infrastructure spend and B2B SaaS agreements—the largest areas of company spend. Key responsibilities include:
• Standing up the Procurement function: Define operating model, policy, approval thresholds, and decision rights governing all purchasing.
• Building and leading the team: Hire and develop a Manager of Procurement Operations, then scale the function as needed.
• Portfolio ownership: Personally negotiate and manage Strava's largest agreements, holding accountability for commercial outcomes and a hard savings target validated by FP&A.
• Vendor management: Drive rationalization across the vendor base, identifying overlap, underused licenses, and consolidation opportunities.
• Cross-functional partnership: Collaborate with Legal on contracting, Finance on budget and savings validation, and IT/Security on vendor review.
• Executive visibility: Provide leadership with clear, credible reporting on spend, vendors, and commercial performance.
• Playbook development: Create negotiation frameworks, benchmarking approaches, and escalation criteria.
You should be energized by building from scratch, comfortable with analytical rigor in commercial negotiations, and skilled at holding positions under pressure from senior stakeholders. The role requires judgment, relationship skills, and a collaborative, no-ego approach to problem-solving.
Reports to the General Counsel. Based in San Francisco with a flexible hybrid model requiring three days per week on-site.
