The Director, Schools (North-West Nigeria) is responsible for the performance management of all schools in the North-West Nigeria territory. This is a senior leadership role overseeing one of the largest teams in the organization, including Regional Managers and School Supervisors who provide daily support to schools.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all schools in the territory achieve excellence in school management metrics, meet ambitious learning outcome targets, and build strong community and parent engagement
- Manage direct reporting lines including Regional Managers, L&D Manager, and Programme Manager
- Use data from multiple sources to ensure academic programming is robust, adheres to regulatory guidelines, and drives outsized learning outcomes
- Spend approximately 20% of time in schools observing teaching and management practices, and engaging with government officials, parents, and community groups
- Support school events including opening celebrations, parent-teacher conferences, and community showcases
- Ensure regulatory compliance including environmental and social standards, and national regulations
- Prepare school staff and students for government-proctored exams, including national examinations
- Oversee delivery of leadership and development sessions to schools and supervisors
- Support staff transitions and build pipelines for school staff recruitment in collaboration with local government and organizations
- Supervise budgets, prevent fraud, and ensure financial discipline
- Use structured observation rubrics and data-driven practices to provide feedback and coaching
The role reports to the Managing Director and Regional Schools Director. Success is measured by school management metrics, learning outcomes, community engagement, enrollment strength, and financial sustainability.
Requirements:
- Proven management and leadership experience leading teams to accomplish objectives
- Proven experience managing field-based teams
- Belief in data-driven decision making
- School management experience preferred
- Relentless focus on achievement for self and others
- Bias towards action and flexibility in dynamic environments
- Collaborative leadership with strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills
- Strong communication skills; fluency in English and Hausa preferred
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent, or Master's degree
