Blackbird Health, a clinician-founded and operated mental health services provider, is seeking a Director for its Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Residency Program. Reporting to the VP of Medical Services, you will lead the development, implementation, and management of a structured, accredited training pathway for recent PMHNP graduates entering pediatric mental health practice. This is a unique opportunity to build a program from the ground up while shaping the next generation of psychiatric care providers.
You will be responsible for designing the complete residency framework, including program duration, preclinical education and shadowing stages, optimal ramp schedules, and visit mixtures. You will develop and codify the residency curriculum with a focus on PMHNP-specific topics such as interviewing, assessment, diagnosis, interpretation of assessments, medication management, and therapy interventions. A key responsibility is leading accreditation efforts, developing working knowledge of the Consortium for Advanced Practice Providers (CAPP) accreditation process within six months and becoming a content expert within one year.
You will provide direct mentoring and hands-on training to residents as they transition from graduate school to professional practice, fostering relationships that support their long-term success. You will design and implement comprehensive evaluation systems that provide consistent feedback, track progress, and support resident growth. You will also manage performance issues and create performance improvement plans as needed. Collaboration with clinical and administrative teams is essential to ensure residents are integrated into Blackbird's culture of exceptional, whole-child care.
Blackbird delivers virtual and in-person mental health services across Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, and Maryland, with plans to expand into new markets in 2027. The organization takes a whole-child approach, examining how the brain, body, and behavior interact to address root causes of challenges. The residency program is a one-year program designed for recent graduates, combining clinical experience and didactic learning to support the transition to professional practice. Graduates have the opportunity to continue as senior members of the Blackbird medical team for at least two years following graduation.
