LawnStarter is the nation's leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, operating three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) with $750M+ in bookings and three consecutive years of profitability. The company is scaling from ~180 core employees to 500+ during peak season and is entering an ambitious growth phase building new verticals and software products. This is a newly created individual-contributor role reporting to the COO, focused on owning marketplace dynamics—the complex optimization of pricing, Pro incentives, and supply planning across hundreds of markets simultaneously. You will start with no direct reports; hiring comes after proving the model works. Key responsibilities: **Pricing Strategy & Execution**: Own instant quotes, manual quotes, and dynamic pricing. Design and run pricing tests before the critical spring seasonal peak. Work with product teams to improve automated pricing tools. Price is the primary lever that balances both sides of the marketplace in real time. **Pro Incentives & Supply Planning**: Design incentive programs tested with Pros in the field (not spreadsheet models). Build agentic tools to automate supply planning market-by-market and service-by-service. Plan supply responsibly ahead of seasonal ramps to avoid reactive chasing. **Service Completion Rate**: Partner tightly with a Senior Product Manager on matching and distribution. You own the pricing, incentive, and planning levers; they own the matching product. Service Completion Rate (share of new customers whose first service completes within 7 days of signup) is a primary success metric for this role. **Core Problems to Solve**: - Raise Service Completion Rate by identifying whether price, incentive, planning, or matching is the binding constraint in each market, then executing fixes alongside Product. - Get ahead of extreme seasonality: demand peaks toward May and falls by December. Build forecasting, monitoring, and operating rhythms to lead the ramp rather than react to it. - Make pricing a real-time balancing lever through dynamic pricing, instant quotes, and manual quotes working as a cohesive system. - Design playbooks of levers (incentives, surge pricing, take rate) that change Pro behavior and protect spend. **AI-First Approach**: You will be a top user and builder in Brain, LawnStarter's internal AI toolkit built on Claude Code. The company operates on an "AI or Extinction" principle—every task, AI-first. You are expected to approach your work with agentic systems thinking, building new systems and processes that push the limits of how fast AI can accelerate business results. **Year 1 Success Metrics**: - Service Completion Rate moves meaningfully in the right direction with traceable attribution to pricing, incentive, and matching decisions. - Automated pricing and dynamic market-balancing tools are live and demonstrably lifting contribution LTV. - Built systems and agentic tools that move from managing supply/demand with a sledgehammer to a scalpel. - COO can hand you a supply or demand problem with no playbook and trust the output: data, recommendation, and execution plan. **Requirements**: - Elite AI builder: Think in terms of agentic systems. Building agents, evals, context engineering, and guardrails are core competencies. Keep up with frontier AI capabilities and deploy them within days, not quarters. Top few percent of AI users at any company you've worked at. Not a fit if you treat AI as an occasional assistant or need engineers to build tooling for you. - Marketplace-balanced: Meaningful experience with two-sided marketplace dynamics. You've felt what happens when one side outruns the other. Not a fit if experience is entirely single-sided businesses. - Pricing owner: Owned dynamic pricing, quoting, or yield decisions where being wrong showed up in the P&L. Make informed recommendations, test them, own results. - Modeler, not requester: Build forecasting and incentive-elasticity models yourself in whatever tooling is fastest. Not a fit if your first instinct is to file analytics requests and wait. - Cross-functional partner: Work well with people who don't report to you. Service Completion Rate requires alignment with Product on priorities and sequencing. Not a fit if you need formal authority to effect change. - Finisher: Executing what you recommend matters as much as the recommendation itself. Not a fit if you treat strategy as your job and execution as someone else's. - Degree in analytics, business, or related field, OR 7+ years of experience in marketplace supply and demand, operations, or equivalent roles.
