Small Door is a membership-based veterinary care company reimagining the pet healthcare experience with human-grade standards. Founded in 2019, the company operates clinics across the East Coast (NYC, Boston, DC, Maryland, Virginia) and has backing from top-tier investors including Lerer Hippeau and Primary Ventures. The founding team and leadership bring experience from Warby Parker, Sweetgreen, One Medical, and other consumer/healthcare innovators.
The Director of Product reports to the VP of Data and Technology and owns the complete product function end-to-end. This is a hands-on builder role spanning consumer-facing products (website, mobile app, booking, membership management, telehealth) and internal staff-facing tools (practice management, workflow automation, intake systems). The role carries significant leverage: two recently combined practice groups are consolidating their product portfolios, and product decisions made over the next year will shape the unified company's direction.
Key responsibilities include: owning the consumer product portfolio from discovery through launch and measurement; leading product workstreams for practice group integration; driving monetization and conversion through pricing and funnel experiments; shipping marketing website changes directly using AI-assisted React; building staff-facing product for operations and medical teams; conducting independent SQL analysis and experiment design; managing vendor relationships (PMS, AI scribe, voice AI); and running the product operating cadence.
The ideal candidate is a senior, hands-on "builder PM" who ships working prototypes and production code using AI tools (Claude, etc.), runs their own QA and analysis, and treats engineering as a peer function rather than a resource pool. You should be AI-native by default, a strong writer (POVs, memos, quantified impact models), comfortable negotiating workflows with doctors and nurses, fluent in A/B testing, and able to make ship/revert decisions from data. Nice-to-haves include multi-site consumer services or healthcare background, M&A/integration experience, and familiarity with Braze, FullStory, LaunchDarkly, or Vetspire.
The role can be based in New York City or Montreal, offering flexibility for the right candidate.
