Carwow is a two-sided automotive marketplace and media company operating across Europe. The company combines technology, media, and automotive expertise to help consumers buy, sell, advertise, and lease cars, while providing dealers with customer acquisition and inventory management tools. With nearly £3bn in annual car transactions, 10m YouTube subscribers, and significant print media reach, Carwow is scaling rapidly. As Director of Product Design, you will lead the design function and report to the VP of Product. You'll be responsible for shaping the Carwow product vision and translating it into compelling experiences for both consumers and dealers. Key responsibilities include: - Partner with VP of Product and Engineering leadership to define the multi-year product vision and strategy - Design for a complex two-sided marketplace, ensuring both consumer and dealer experiences are optimized and interconnected - Unify fragmented product experiences across web and mobile platforms for both customer and dealer sides - Set and maintain high design standards while staying actively involved in execution and problem-solving - Lead, mentor, and grow the Product Design team; hire and develop talent - Maintain close connection to customer and dealer problems through research and direct engagement - Collaborate with Product and Analytics to measure design performance, run experiments, and iterate based on data - Explore and apply AI thoughtfully to product experiences where it genuinely improves outcomes This is a hands-on leadership role—you'll be reviewing work, challenging thinking, and deeply involved in the company's hardest product challenges, not managing from a distance. Requirements: - Proven experience leading Product Design in a strong digital product business, with continued hands-on involvement in design work - Strong product judgment, deep care for craft, and ability to simplify complex problems - Experience designing for marketplaces, platforms, or products serving multiple distinct user types (e.g., consumers and professionals) - Demonstrated ability to balance competing user needs and understand the different challenges of consumer vs. professional/B2B design - Excellent partnership skills with Product and Engineering teams; ability to challenge constructively, listen, and drive alignment - Experience using AI in real products with good judgment about where it adds genuine value - Automotive experience is not required; fresh perspective and track record of building loved products preferred
