MURAL is seeking a Director of Product Design to lead the design of AI and agentic workflows across its collaboration platform. This is a working director role that combines people leadership with hands-on interaction design craft. You will define what agent-native design means at MURAL and build both the team and pattern language to scale it across the platform. Your mission is to establish the underlying grammar for how agents disclose intent, request permission, hand off control, signal confidence, and recover from errors. You'll work across all product surfaces to create reusable primitives and interaction patterns that compound rather than get reinvented per feature. Team Leadership: You'll hire, develop, and manage a small team of product designers focused on agentic and AI-native experiences. You'll set craft standards, run critiques, own your team's roadmap in partnership with product and engineering, and represent the team's work and capacity to senior leadership. Pattern Ownership: You'll define and maintain MURAL's interaction pattern language for agent behavior—similar to how a design systems team owns typography and color, but applied to agent behavior. You'll use code and rapid prototyping as primary design tools to pressure-test how agent behaviors actually feel, not just how they look. You'll establish reusable components, states, motion, and copy patterns that the broader design organization builds upon. Strategic Leadership: You'll represent design's perspective in product strategy conversations about where and how agents appear in the platform. You'll partner with research to build evidence around control, autonomy, and trust tradeoffs. You'll lead workshops and design sprints to align stakeholders on ambiguous agent-related decisions and contribute to MURAL's external thought leadership on AI-native design. Required: 15+ years of product design experience including recent management of designers, ideally in 0→1 problem spaces. Track record defining or evolving design pattern languages, particularly behavior-based systems. Familiarity with agent-based or AI-assisted experience design including memory, context windows, tool use, and autonomy/control tradeoffs. Comfort using code as a design tool for prototyping and interaction exploration. Strong systems thinking and experience partnering with engineering to scale prototypes into shipped implementations. Ability to represent design in senior cross-functional strategy conversations and deep empathy for diverse, global users with accessibility and inclusivity experience. Bonus: Experience growing design team capabilities from a small base, background in multi-agent systems or workflow automation, experience with canvas-based or spatial interfaces, experience designing with structured and unstructured data, history shaping 0→1 products or platform capabilities, or public thought leadership on AI-native design.
