Dutch Vet is a venture-backed veterinary telemedicine platform transforming pet healthcare by enabling licensed veterinarians to diagnose, prescribe, and ship medications directly to customers. The company has raised funding from top-tier investors including Forerunner Ventures and Eclipse Ventures, and is led by experienced founders from Hims, PlushCare, and other successful startups.
As Director of Human Resources, you will report directly to the CEO and own the complete people function for Dutch's next growth phase. This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role requiring both executive-level thinking and operational execution.
Key responsibilities include: developing and executing Dutch's people strategy across the entire employee lifecycle; serving as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive team on organizational design, workforce planning, and performance management; designing competitive compensation philosophies, salary bands, and equity practices; leading performance management processes including goal-setting, feedback, reviews, and development; managing employee benefits, payroll, HR systems, and core people operations; partnering with legal on employment matters; and strengthening communication and engagement across a distributed, multistate workforce.
You should be equally comfortable advising on organizational structure, coaching first-time managers, resolving sensitive employee issues, analyzing compensation data, and improving HR processes. The ideal candidate will help Dutch preserve startup speed and entrepreneurial energy while building increasingly sophisticated, scalable people practices that support high performance and employee development.
Required: 8+ years progressive HR or people operations experience; 3+ years leading an HR or People function in a venture-backed, high-growth, or rapidly changing company; experience managing distributed, multistate workforces; demonstrated ability to operate as both strategic executive and hands-on leader; excellent judgment, discretion, and emotional intelligence; strong analytical skills and comfort with data-driven decision-making; ability to balance employee experience with business needs; strong project management; and genuine enthusiasm for improving access to veterinary care.
Nice-to-haves include experience in consumer healthcare, telehealth, pharmacy, veterinary care, subscription commerce, or regulated industries, and experience with HRIS, payroll, benefits, ATS, and performance-management platforms.
