Fuse is building a fusion energy company with a mission to accelerate the world's transition to fusion energy. As Director of FP&A, you will be the financial architect for the company's next growth phase, reporting directly to the CEO. You will lead all aspects of financial planning and analysis for a capital-intensive hardware company operating multiple legal entities, including government contracts. Core responsibilities include building company-wide financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting; developing and maintaining operating models across government and commercial businesses; partnering with the CEO on fundraising strategy, board materials, and investor reporting; managing cash forecasting and capital allocation; creating KPI dashboards for leadership decision-making; supporting pricing strategy and unit economics; leading annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting; and evaluating strategic investments and government opportunities. You will work closely with the CEO, accounting team, external banking partners, auditors, and investors. The role requires hands-on financial modeling expertise and the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for leadership. Minimum qualifications include 8+ years of progressive finance experience (FP&A, Strategic Finance, Investment Banking, or Private Equity), strong financial modeling skills, experience supporting executive leadership, and comfort with ambiguity. Preferred experience includes deep tech, aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or energy sectors; venture-backed company fundraising; government contracting (DoD, DOE, FAR, CAS, DCAA); hardware/capital-intensive operations; and building finance functions from scratch. Advanced degrees (MBA, CFA, CPA) are valued. This is an in-office role requiring relocation to San Leandro, CA if not local. The position requires flexibility for extended hours and weekends when needed, and may involve travel to other Fuse facilities. ITAR compliance required: must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required State Department authorizations.
