Form Energy is seeking an experienced Director of Commissioning and Field Service to lead the deployment, operations, and maintenance of utility-scale iron-air battery energy storage projects. This is a pivotal leadership role to establish and scale the field service function as Form ramps production at its West Virginia manufacturing facility and deploys systems across major US utilities. You will build and lead a world-class team of field service engineers and technicians responsible for system commissioning, post-installation service, and technical issue resolution. Key responsibilities include developing and executing the commissioning playbook to ensure seamless transitions from construction to commercial operation date (COD), implementing comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M) strategy with operational standards and safety protocols, and owning mean-time-to-repair (MTTR) and system availability metrics to meet service-level agreements. You will hold full P&L responsibility for the field service organization, including negotiation and execution of long-term service agreements (LTSAs), warranty management, and liquidated damages exposure. You'll collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Product Management, and Manufacturing teams to provide field feedback that informs product improvements in commissioning ease and serviceability. Additional responsibilities include developing technical documentation (commissioning checklists, site acceptance test protocols, emergency response plans, O&M manuals, training materials), managing the commissioning and field service budget, overseeing spare parts inventory and service contracts, and managing external vendor relationships. Travel to project sites is required up to 40% of the time, often on short notice, to support critical deployments and field operations. Relocation assistance is available. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in commissioning, field service, field operations, or technical support for utility-scale energy, industrial, or complex electro-mechanical systems, with 4+ years managing a global or large regional team. You should have a demonstrated track record of building and scaling a commissioning or O&M organization, practical experience with energy storage systems (power electronics, high-voltage systems, protective relaying, SCADA, grid support functionality), and strong knowledge of safety standards and industrial codes (OSHA, NFPA 70E). Exceptional communication, negotiation, and executive presentation skills are essential, along with a strategic, resourceful leadership approach capable of driving cross-functional alignment and managing complex, time-critical field issues. Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent required.
