MaverickX is developing precision biologics for critical resource extraction, bringing cutting-edge biotechnology to the energy sector. The Applications team owns testing, performance validation, and field execution of the company's chemistry platform.
You will lead the field implementation of PetroX Boost, a biochemical treatment that selectively alters mineral phases in unconventional reservoirs to enhance oil production. This is a hands-on leadership role combining individual technical contribution with team building and strategic product development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end treatment design for field programs: fluid volume and concentration, carrier fluid, injection rate, pressure limits, shut-in, and flowback strategy. Translate laboratory results (dose-response, reaction kinetics, mineralogy, coreflood) and fracture geometry into documented field recommendations.
- Direct field deployment protocols, supervise treatments on location, interpret real-time data, and lead post-job evaluation.
- Design placement and diversion strategies for both standalone (bullhead) and frac-integrated deployment modes; determine optimal delivery approach for each well and customer.
- Serve as the technical voice in customer discussions with the Growth team, building and conducting field partnerships with major operators.
- Establish screening criteria for formations and basins suitable for PetroX Boost; lead basin expansion efforts.
- Lead the Applications team (stimulation chemistry, field engineering, reservoir analysis). Set technical agenda, develop people, own function results, and scale the team as the field program grows.
- Evaluate and develop new oilfield applications for the chemical platform.
You will work directly with technical operators to deploy, prove, and iterate on solutions. The role involves collaboration with Growth and Bioprocess teams, frequent travel to customer sites and field locations, and willingness to work extended hours as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field (or Master's degree)
- 15+ years (BS) or 10+ years (MS) in stimulation, completions, or production enhancement with personal end-to-end ownership of treatment designs and outcomes
- Direct, hands-on experience designing and executing stimulation or acidizing treatments across multiple basins
- Technical depth in matrix acidizing, reaction kinetics, placement and diversion, precipitation, and formation damage
- Experience specifying or interpreting coreflood and rock-fluid interaction testing
- Demonstrated ability to design for novel fluid systems where field history and offset data do not exist
- Experience leading, building, or mentoring technical teams, or clear readiness to do so
- Credibility as the most senior technical voice with operators (both technical and executive levels)
- Bias toward action and strong ownership; comfort operating without corporate playbook
- Strong desire to contribute to American dynamism and global resource supply chain
- Must be willing to work on-site in Austin, TX
- Willing to travel to customer offices, field sites, other facilities, and industry events
- Physical requirements: lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching overhead, bending, standing for long periods
- BSL2 lab operation guidelines compliance
- Strong technical communication, writing, and reporting skills for diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal chemistry training alongside stimulation engineering career
- Prior leadership of applications, technical services, or field-technical organization in oilfield chemistry
- Direct experience in Permian, Bakken, and Eagle Ford basins
- Experience with bio-based chemistries
- Experience with both standalone and stimulation-integrated completions
- Familiarity with production chemical programs and stimulation fluid interactions
- Operator and service company experience
