Mesh is a crypto payments infrastructure company backed by leading investors including SBI, Money Forward, Paradigm, Dragonfly, Galaxy, and PayPal Ventures. The company's mission is to enable consumers to pay and be paid with any asset, bridging the gap between tokenized assets and everyday commerce.
You will lead Mesh's expansion into Japan, one of the most important and complex markets in APAC. This is a dual-mandate role combining commercial growth and corporate governance responsibilities.
Commercial responsibilities include owning Mesh's entire sales pipeline across exchanges, payment service providers (PSPs), banks, and fintechs in Japan. You will build and manage relationships with key players in Japan's crypto and payments ecosystem, act as Mesh's primary market representative to partners, prospective clients, and regulators, and report regularly to senior leadership on pipeline development and commercial progress.
Governance responsibilities include serving as a director of Mesh's Japan entity with statutory responsibility for local representation and board-level accountability. You will work closely with Mesh's global business development, legal, and compliance teams to ensure local activity aligns with company strategy, partner with the Compliance Officer and outside counsel to navigate Japan's regulatory environment, and recruit and manage a small local team as the operation scales.
You will operate with significant autonomy from day one, building the playbook, pipeline, and local presence simultaneously. This is an early-stage market entry role requiring entrepreneurial mindset and ability to navigate complexity independently.
Required qualifications: 10+ years in payments, fintech, or financial services with meaningful crypto/digital assets experience; experience serving as a company director in Japan or strong familiarity with Japanese corporate governance; established network across Japan's exchange, PSP, and financial services landscape; business-level fluency in Japanese and English (native Japanese speaker preferred); track record closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals; comfort with autonomy in fast-moving environments; prior engagement with Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA); based in Tokyo or able to relocate.
Nice-to-have: existing relationships with major Japan exchanges or fintech platforms; experience standing up or scaling regional operations for global companies.
