Muon Space is seeking a Director of Execution Operations to serve as the SVP's deputy and operational partner for the Mission Execution organization, the company's second-largest division. This newly formed organization integrates Mission Engineering, hardware and electrical engineering, production (AI&T and supply chain), and the acquired Starlight Propulsion team, and is implementing a new integrated product team (IPT) operating model while scaling rapidly.
You will drive operational excellence and organizational maturity across Mission Execution, ensuring it scales effectively and integrates seamlessly with the broader company. Your role splits into two personas: the Operator (75%) and the Ambassador (25%).
As the Operator, you will design and own the operating rhythm for the Mission Execution leadership team, including weekly business reviews, milestone tracking, and strategic planning sessions. You'll lead the OKR process from planning through execution, keeping technical milestones and organizational objectives aligned with company-wide goals. You'll identify and eliminate operational bottlenecks, building tools, workflows, and processes to run multiple complex programs concurrently. You'll also spearhead high-impact, ambiguous initiatives such as organizational design, capacity planning, and vendor strategy.
As the Ambassador, you'll act as the SVP's proxy in key meetings, manage relationships with cross-functional leaders, and synthesize complex technical updates into compelling narratives for all-hands meetings, board decks, and internal communications. You'll partner with the SVP to protect engineering culture and ensure Muon's mission and values are embodied across the organization.
Required qualifications include 10+ years in demanding roles such as engineering program management, business operations in technical environments, or management consulting focused on technology/hardware companies. You must have technical depth to evaluate engineering roadmaps and challenge assumptions, proven ability to translate strategy into scalable processes, strong operational acumen, high emotional intelligence, and outstanding communication skills.
Desired experience includes aerospace or complex hardware environments, scaling organizations through rapid growth or acquisition integration, familiarity with OKRs and program/portfolio management, and prior experience as a deputy, chief of staff, or comparable force-multiplier role at a scaling company.
The role is hybrid, requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose, CA.
