The Engineering and Business Systems team ensures that business systems, platforms, and data products enable operational processes and drive business decisions across the organization.
In this role, you will lead a multi-disciplinary organization spanning platform engineering, data engineering, integration engineering, and systems administration. You'll own the technical architecture and delivery roadmap for business systems, enterprise data, and integrations—positioning the team to thrive in an AI-driven, headless, API-first architecture paradigm.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the organizational shift from traditional IT/admin-centric operations to platform and data engineering focused teams
- Owning technical architecture, design, and delivery roadmaps across business systems and enterprise data
- Directly managing and developing systems and engineering managers, with focus on technical mentorship and career growth
- Establishing engineering standards, practices, and operating models that leverage AI and agentic processes
- Partnering with Product, Success, and Program Management to translate business requirements into technical scope and sequencing
- Serving as the technical lead for vendor and partner relationships, including architecture review and design approval
- Owning security, RBAC, and data governance posture of business systems platforms
- Collaborating with engineering leaders across Chainalysis to leverage existing platforms and best practices
Required qualifications:
- 8+ years in software, platform, or data engineering with 4+ years managing engineers and engineering managers
- Strong organizational leadership: hiring, career development, and building succession depth
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, transformation-in-progress environments
- Demonstrated ownership of team-based technical architecture and engineering practices (repo management, CI/CD, code review, testing discipline)
- Experience managing technically mixed teams (engineers, data engineers, systems administrators) and raising technical standards
- Data-first orientation with focus on data architecture and flow
- Strong fluency in modern, event-based, service-oriented architectures using Node.js/TypeScript in serverless AWS environments
- Deep experience with REST/GraphQL API architectures and authorization strategies (OAuth, JWT)
- Familiarity with data engineering fundamentals: SQL, Python, dbt, pipeline orchestration, ETL patterns, medallion architectures
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code platforms (e.g., Terraform)
Nice-to-have experience includes modern AI-centric engineering workflows, Model Context Protocol (MCP), graph databases, vendor management on complex platform builds, and enterprise SaaS platforms (Salesforce, NetSuite, Marketo) at architectural and API levels.
