As Director of Credit Risk, you will lead Airwallex's global second-line oversight of credit, FX, and counterparty risk, reporting to the Senior Director of Financial Risk. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for setting risk guardrails that enable safe business growth across merchant acquiring, charge cards, FX, treasury, settlement, and banking-partner activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining and enhancing the global second-line credit risk framework, including policies, risk appetite thresholds, limits, escalation protocols, and governance standards across all products and legal entities
- Overseeing credit exposures across merchant acquiring, charge cards, B2B/commercial activities, FX pre-funding, treasury exposures, and settlement flows
- Reviewing and challenging first-line underwriting strategies, customer/merchant risk policies, credit assessments, and limit-setting methodologies; serving as senior escalation point for complex decisions
- Establishing and monitoring FX risk guardrails for exposures from pre-funding, settlement, customer activity, and treasury flows
- Setting counterparty risk standards for banking partners, payment partners, merchants, and customers; establishing exposure limits, concentration thresholds, and monitoring requirements
- Leading proactive portfolio monitoring with focus on exposure, concentration, delinquency, default, chargeback, loss, and settlement risk indicators
- Reviewing loss mitigation strategies including collections, collateral management, prefunding, reserves, and chargeback processes
- Partnering with Product, Engineering, Commercial, Treasury, Finance, and Operations to assess risk design of new products, features, markets, and partner arrangements
- Leading or supporting risk committee decisions, material approvals, limit exceptions, and breach assessments
- Representing Credit Risk in regulatory examinations, audits, and reviews with banking and strategic partners
You will work at the intersection of credit, FX, and counterparty risk, partnering closely with multiple business functions to enable commercial growth while protecting Airwallex from financial loss and excessive risk exposure. This role requires analytical, commercially minded risk leadership with ability to build scalable frameworks and practical controls across a fast-moving, multi-currency global network.
