Clio, a global leader in legal AI technology, is seeking a Director of Content Collections to own the company's legal content portfolio as a strategic asset. This is a new role that sits at the intersection of product, operations, and commercial strategy.
You will lead and develop a team of Content Managers responsible for individual jurisdictions' legal datasets, which form the foundation of Clio's content moat and Vincent AI's research quality. Your scope spans hiring and developing the team, defining the multi-year global content strategy, allocating budget and resources across jurisdictions, and setting the standards that govern the entire content supply chain.
Key responsibilities include:
1. **Team Leadership**: Hire, onboard, and develop Content Managers; establish operating rhythms and performance standards; create a guild for cross-jurisdictional knowledge sharing; own succession planning.
2. **Global Portfolio Strategy**: Define which jurisdictions Clio invests in, at what depth, and in what sequence. Allocate budget, headcount, and licensing spend against a consistent value model. Maintain visibility on competitive positioning versus AI-native players, global legal publishers, and regional incumbents. Own go/no-go decisions on market launches and build/buy/license decisions.
3. **Content Quality & Vincent Research**: Set frameworks for how content surfaces across Clio Library, Clio Work, and Vincent. Own the global framework for Vincent research quality, including source tiering and evaluation methodology. Diagnose research-quality failures and drive remediation across teams.
4. **Standards & Supply Chain**: Define and version global metadata and structural standards (citation models, court hierarchies, amendment tracking, document typing). Set acceptance criteria, quality thresholds, citator requirements, freshness standards, and the enrichment agenda.
5. **Product Partnership**: Serve as Product's content counterpart. Translate roadmap intent into costed, sequenced content plans. Provide early, honest feasibility assessments. Own the content readiness gate for market launches. Surface coverage and enrichment assets Product may not have considered.
6. **Demand Management**: Consolidate all Content Manager requests into a single, ranked, rationale-backed demand queue. Represent Collections in Content Engineering planning cycles. Push jurisdiction-specific needs onto common infrastructure. Give Data Ops forward visibility on volume and launches.
7. **Commercial & Executive Accountability**: Be the senior content authority with enterprise customers and global firms. Own the investment case for coverage, including cost per jurisdiction, licensing spend, and ROI. Present portfolio health and risk to executive leadership. Own competitive intelligence for content and source strategic upstream relationships.
You will work across multiple teams you don't directly manage—Product, Data Ops, Content Engineering, Secondary Content, Licensing, Corp Dev, FP&A, Sales, and Revenue—leveraging the quality of your specifications and credibility of your ROI cases to drive outcomes.
**Requirements:**
- 10+ years in legal publishing, legal data, or content/product leadership
- 3+ years managing managers or senior individual contributors
- Track record owning a multi-market or multi-product content portfolio with real budget authority and demonstrable ROI
- Demonstrated success delivering outcomes through partner teams you don't manage (ideally as demand-side owner opposite operations and engineering groups)
- Working knowledge of at least one major legal system in depth
- Direct experience with legal research products
- Genuine multi-jurisdiction experience highly desirable
- Experience shipping AI-assisted or AI-native content workflows in production
- Credible in front of enterprise buyers, global firms, and analysts
