Exa is building a search engine for the AI era. The Search API currently powers AI agents, Fortune 500 companies, and AI labs. The company is a largely SF-based team of approximately 150 people, including talent from Harvard, MIT, Meta, Google Research, and founders.
As a Forward Deployed Product Manager (FDPM), you will be customer-obsessed and spend the majority of your time in the field talking directly with customers to understand their technical requirements and connect them to Exa's product offerings. You will ensure customer success by building and delivering solutions tailored to their needs.
Key responsibilities include:
Customer Journey: Engage directly with customers ranging from fast-moving startups to large enterprises to identify use cases and convert interest into long-term usage and expansion. Help the sales team define and propose tailored solutions and proof-of-value demos that demonstrate Exa's value. Assist the GTM team in appropriately pricing products for custom engagements. Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, often interfacing with executive and engineering audiences.
Product Roadmap: Identify common themes and high-leverage feature requests across the customer base. Drive execution of product enablement initiatives.
You will navigate complex customer and technical scenarios, coming up with creative solutions that drive outcomes rather than just hitting technical milestones.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2–8+ years of product management experience building technical or developer-facing products
- Strong technical background: CS/EE degree, production engineering experience, or equivalent depth earned on the job
- Ability to communicate highly technical concepts to diverse audiences, including understanding of latest AI developments
- Focus on driving outcomes, not just technical milestones
- Ability to navigate complex customer/technical scenarios and devise creative solutions
- Preferred: Early startup or founding experience; technical PM experience
