Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, transforming how legal professionals and law firms work. The Director of Content Collections owns Clio's legal content portfolio as a single global asset—the foundation of the company's content moat and Vincent AI's research quality. This role directly manages Content Managers responsible for individual jurisdictions' datasets and oversees the end-to-end strategy, performance, and resilience of Clio's data collections.
Key responsibilities include:
**Team Leadership & Development**: Hire, onboard, and develop country and regional Content Managers. Set operating rhythms through roadmap reviews, quarterly business reviews, and 1:1s that elevate judgment. Define the Content Manager role ladder and performance standards. Create a Content Manager guild to propagate learnings across jurisdictions. Own succession planning to eliminate single-person risk on any collection.
**Global Portfolio Strategy**: Define multi-year content strategy for which jurisdictions Clio invests in, at what depth, and in what sequence, anchored to Product's market roadmap. Allocate budget, headcount, licensing spend, and partner capacity across jurisdictions using a consistent value model. Maintain a global coverage picture versus AI-native players, global legal publishers, and regional incumbents. Set market-readiness standards and own go/no-go decisions on launch readiness. Own build/buy/license decisions per jurisdiction.
**Content Quality & Vincent Research**: Set frameworks governing where each collection surfaces across Clio Library, Clio Work, and Vincent. Own the global framework for Vincent research quality—how sources are tiered and what evidence moves sources between tiers. Establish evaluation methodology, benchmark question sets, and quality gates that make Vincent answer quality measurable by jurisdiction. Diagnose research-quality failures and drive remediation.
**Standards & Supply Chain**: Own and version global metadata and structural standards (citation models, court hierarchies, amendment tracking, document typing). Define acceptance criteria and quality thresholds for ingested and enriched content. Specify citator requirements per jurisdiction. Set freshness, reliability, and data-integrity requirements. Set the enrichment agenda with evidence-based quality bars.
**Product Partnership**: Serve as Product's content counterpart. Translate roadmap intent into costed, sequenced content plans with honest timelines. Give Product early, honest feasibility reads. Own the content readiness gate for market launches. Make content lead times visible in planning cycles. Translate enterprise customer requirements into portfolio priorities.
**Demand Signal & Operations**: Consolidate Content Managers' asks into a single, ranked, rationale-backed demand queue. Represent Collections in Content Engineering's planning cycles and secure capacity with quantified impact cases. Push jurisdiction-specific needs onto common infrastructure. Give Data Ops forward visibility on volume, sources, and launches. Ensure the primary corpus meets Secondary Content's structural requirements.
**Commercial & Executive Accountability**: Be the senior content authority in front of customers, explaining the whole portfolio to global firms and enterprise buyers. Support enterprise pursuits, RFPs, and renewals. Own the investment case for coverage—cost per jurisdiction, licensing spend, acquisition cost, and attributable return. Present to the Content Committee and executive leadership on portfolio health and risk. Own competitive intelligence for content. Source and negotiate strategic upstream relationships with courts, publishers, and open-data initiatives. Bring customer signal back into the portfolio.
**Requirements**: 10+ years in legal publishing, legal data, or content/product leadership, including 3+ years managing managers or senior individual contributors. Track record owning a multi-market or multi-product content portfolio with real budget authority and demonstrable ROI. Demonstrated success delivering outcomes through partner teams they don't manage—ideally as the demand-side owner opposite operations and engineering groups. Working knowledge of at least one major legal system in depth, direct experience with legal research products, and judgment to know what transfers across jurisdictions. Genuine multi-jurisdiction experience highly desirable. Experience shipping AI-assisted or AI-native content workflows in production, with clear view of where they hold up and where they don't. Credible in front of enterprise buyers, global firms, and analysts, representing a portfolio rather than a single product or market.
