Salary: USD 185,500 - 344,500 / annual
Novartis seeks a Director of Competitive Readiness and Portfolio Strategy to lead competitive strategy and execution planning for the US Oncology therapeutic area. This role sits within the US General Management function and Portfolio & Pipeline Strategy team, reporting to senior leadership.
Key responsibilities include conducting strategic assessments of competitor actions, analyzing market dynamics, and assessing implications for brand and portfolio forecasts. You will benchmark strategic and operational approaches against competitors, articulate business implications, and drive development of legally compliant, cross-functional competitive response plans aligned with Oncology general management.
The role requires monitoring and benchmarking strategic plans against competitor developments to provide early warning of threats and opportunities. You will proactively monitor the core disease area, healthcare landscape, and macroeconomic environment—including policy, regulatory, and health technology developments—to identify US-relevant threats, opportunities, and emerging business trends that inform planning and drive future portfolio growth.
In collaboration with the Competitive Intelligence team, you will lead the design and execution of competitive planning initiatives, including competitive simulations for key products facing significant competitive events. You will ensure effective, compliant, and timely execution of competitive and business intelligence activities, including primary research, intelligence gathering, analysis projects, and coordination with internal teams and external vendors.
The position requires developing and strengthening center-of-excellence capabilities within the team. You will work cross-functionally to establish competitive preparedness for the Oncology portfolio to enable sustainable, profitable growth over a 10+ year horizon, aligned with the enterprise operating model.
This is an in-office role based in East Hanover, NJ with no remote flexibility. Up to 20% domestic and international travel is expected. The role requires a high degree of autonomy, creative problem-solving, and the ability to influence leaders at senior levels.
