Carry1st is building a dominant commerce platform for Africa and the Middle East, operating at the intersection of video games, publishing, and fintech. The company scales content in frontier markets through Pay1st (a proprietary payments solution) and the Carry1st Shop (online marketplace), partnering with top global game companies like Riot Games, Activision, and Tencent, backed by investors including a16z, Google, Sony, and Nas. As Director of Business Development, you will lead the expansion of Carry1st's core payment technology beyond gaming into high-growth consumer digital and direct-to-consumer verticals. You own the full deal cycle—from pipeline building and opening senior relationships through negotiation and close—with a focus on minimizing time-to-signed. You will take an initial industry-expansion strategy to market, validate it through customer conversations, and develop it into a repeatable go-to-market motion. Key responsibilities include owning the entire deal process from pipeline development through closing; translating expansion strategy into a prioritized target-account plan; building and maintaining relationships with senior decision-makers (VPs of Product, Heads of Strategy, Commercial Executives); communicating and demonstrating Carry1st's value proposition; validating buyer needs and use cases through active customer conversations; negotiating terms and closing deals to meet revenue targets; maintaining a robust CRM-tracked pipeline; transitioning clients post-close to Implementation while maintaining commercial relationships; collaborating with Product and Implementation teams to share market insights; and bringing field learnings back into the commercial playbook. You will need 5+ years in enterprise software, cross-border infrastructure, or strategic FinTech commercial roles with a proven track record of meeting targets, building net-new pipelines as a true hunter, and driving high-priority deals to signature. Professional fluency in English and Mandarin is required, along with cross-cultural agility. You thrive in growth-stage environments where commercial motions are evolving, can independently take early strategy to market, compress deal timelines, and refine playbooks based on learnings. A network within Product and Corporate Strategy teams at consumer tech giants and understanding of how global brands navigate infrastructure constraints in emerging regions is valuable. You demonstrate excellent negotiation skills, immediate credibility with senior external stakeholders, and a track record of excellence from top-tier educational institutions or impressive alternative professional pursuits.
