Checkr is a data platform powering safe and fair decisions through AI verification. The company serves over 140,000 customers including Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, and Anthropic. Recognized on Forbes Cloud 100 2025 and Y Combinator's 2024 Breakthrough Companies list, Checkr is scaling rapidly. You will join as Director, Assistant Controller reporting to the Controller, leading a team of 10 across corporate accounting, close operations, and technical accounting. This is a foundational role to build accounting infrastructure for a high-growth, venture-backed company preparing for public markets. Key responsibilities include: leading and developing the GL accounting, treasury, and technical accounting teams; designing and implementing accounting policies and processes compliant with US GAAP; managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles with a focus on timeline reduction and public-company-grade controls; serving as the in-house US GAAP technical accounting expert; optimizing the Oracle Fusion ERP system with the engineering team; leading external audits; and supporting M&A activities with the corporate development team. You bring 12+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, ideally from Big 4 or public company environments. You have deep US GAAP expertise, a proven track record of designing and implementing durable accounting processes (not just operating existing ones), and preferably SOX compliance experience. CPA certification is strongly preferred. You combine technical rigor with an action-oriented mindset, raising standards, moving with urgency, and taking ownership to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Checkr expects in-office presence 3+ days per week at hub locations (Denver, San Francisco, Nashville, or Santiago). The role offers competitive compensation, equity, comprehensive benefits including 100% medical/dental/vision coverage, learning allowance, flexible PTO, and wellness stipends.
