Kaizen Labs is a government technology company founded in 2022 and based in New York City that partners with local, state, and federal agencies to replace legacy systems with modern, AI-native software. The company has raised $35 million from top-tier investors (NEA, a16z, Accel) and currently reaches 55 million Americans across 50+ agencies, with ambitions to serve 100 million residents by year-end. As Digital Designer, you will be the primary creative force establishing how the world perceives Kaizen. This is not an execution role—you will set the visual and brand direction for the company and ship work independently. Key responsibilities include: designing and shipping landing pages, campaign sites, and entry points for agency platforms that convert both stakeholders and mission-driven talent; building a constituent-facing visual system (typography, motion language, illustration style) so every Kaizen-built service carries a consistent signature; developing Kaizen's web presence including marketing site, launch moments, and campaign work; shipping your own work in code rather than handing off to engineers; leveraging AI-native creative tools (Midjourney, Runway, Firefly) as genuine creative multipliers; partnering with Sales and BD on federal pitch materials and demo environments; and collaborating closely with the Design Lead, CEO, and engineering teams to ensure product and brand cohesion. You will bring a portfolio demonstrating range across web design, motion, and illustration; a proven track record of shipping independently from concept to completion; strong command of web-native design and how layouts, typography, and interactions behave in browsers; fluency with motion tools (After Effects, Rive, Lottie, Jitter); fluency with AI creative tools; and experience building or evolving brand systems from first principles. Ideal candidates have designed for B2G, B2B, or mission-driven organizations; worked with USWDS or comparable government design standards; and have a point of view on what great government-facing design looks like. This role requires deep belief in the mission to scale design across government agencies, comfort building systems from scratch rather than iterating within existing ones, and viewing AI tools as creative multipliers rather than threats. The work directly impacts farmers applying for loans, service members finding housing, and immigrants navigating case management—quality is not abstract.
