Cloudflare is seeking a Digital Customer Engineer to serve as a trusted technical advisor and core contributor to the company's technical go-to-market strategy. You will support Small and Medium Business (SMB) and Digital Native Business (DNB) customers across the complete customer lifecycle—from initial technical discovery and validation through onboarding and adoption.
In this role, you will bridge technical strategy and business value by helping customers design fit-for-purpose Cloudflare architectures, realize measurable outcomes, and confidently expand their use of the platform. Working as part of a pooled team and reporting to a Customer Engineering leader, you will operate against shared team and territory goals while leveraging AI-assisted workflows, standardization, and automation to serve customers efficiently and at scale.
Key responsibilities include:
• Technical Validation: Partner with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, capture business requirements, and map customer infrastructure to Cloudflare solutions. Define scope, success criteria, and evaluation plans for Proof of Concepts. Deliver tailored technical presentations, architectural diagrams, and demonstrations addressing performance, security, reliability, and developer-platform challenges.
• Customer Adoption & Value Realization: Guide customers through onboarding by developing structured success plans and architectural guidance. Serve as a trusted technical contact, help apply configuration best practices across DNS migrations, Zero Trust rollouts, and WAF optimization. Partner with Account Executives to support customer health, manage risk, and identify expansion opportunities.
• Commercial Accountability & Expansion: Contribute to shared team and territory targets tied to new business, adoption, retention, and account growth. Help customers deepen platform use and identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities. Contribute to customer value reviews that translate capabilities and adoption into measurable business outcomes.
• Trusted Advisory: Build strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders throughout the customer lifecycle. Provide guidance on architecture, security posture, developer platforms, AI control layers, and adoption strategy. Identify technical risks early and recommend practical improvements.
• AI Orchestration & Workflow Automation: Leverage AI agents, Large Language Models, and internal platforms to automate routine tasks such as RFP/Security Questionnaire responses, sandbox provisioning, telemetry monitoring, and documentation, freeing time for strategic customer advisory.
• Education & Enablement: Partner with internal teams to design and maintain reusable technical resources. Create and deliver demonstrations, workshops, architectural guidance, and technical documentation. Share knowledge and assets with the wider team to raise the organization's technical baseline.
Travel up to 20% may be required for customer meetings, conferences, and team collaboration.
Qualifications:
• Education: Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 1–5 years of professional experience in a customer-facing technical role such as Sales Engineering, technical consulting, technical support, or related field.
• Architectural Mindset: Ability to understand, whiteboard, and clearly explain network, security, application, or developer-platform architectures.
• Consultative Skills: Ability to understand customer needs, ask effective discovery questions, and translate technical capabilities into relevant customer and business outcomes.
• Commercial Mindset: Understanding of customer buying decisions, enterprise or technology sales cycles, and how technical value supports adoption, retention, and growth.
• Communication: Strong presentation and stakeholder-management skills; ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both practitioners and business decision-makers.
• Portfolio Management: Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple concurrent customer engagements, and collaborate effectively within a pooled team environment.
• Technical Breadth: Demonstrated knowledge or experience in at least three of the following areas: Internet Fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP(S), SSL/TLS, APIs, core networking); Security (Web Application Firewalls, Bot Management, firewalls, rate limiting, Zero Trust, SASE); Performance (website and application performance, latency, caching, content delivery, modern web protocols); AI Proficiency (prompt engineering, AI-assisted research, scripting, log analysis, LLM usage, workflow automation); Coding and Scripting (Python, JavaScript, Bash, Lua, or Go); Developer Platform Fluency (APIs, SDKs, webhooks, cloud-native applications, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, observability).
• Curiosity, initiative, and demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Languages: Native-like fluency in both written and spoken English AND (Swedish OR Russian).
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience creating reusable technical assets such as demonstrations, code samples, technical documentation, reference architectures, or customer workshops.
• Familiarity with cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Exposure to modern application architectures including serverless computing, containers, microservices, and APIs.
• Knowledge of common application-security risks and mitigation strategies.
• Familiarity with LLM orchestration, Retrieval-Augmented Generation architectures, or model-access controls.
