As a Backend Developer, you will develop and maintain back-end services powering consumer-facing applications across Web and Mobile platforms. You'll support and enhance the foundations of a distributed Web application architecture while maintaining high performance and quality standards. You'll exemplify WorkJam's standards for application development by writing elegant, scalable, clean code and collaborating with experienced designers, engineers, project managers, and QA professionals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain back-end services for consumer-facing applications
- Support and enhance distributed Web application architecture
- Maintain high levels of performance and code quality
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams of designers, engineers, project managers, and QA professionals
- Contribute to a codebase that prioritizes best practices in software development

REQUIREMENTS:
Mandatory:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- Recognized experience in Java back-end development with: JDK 17+, Spring, Microservices, REST, Git, JUnit, mocking frameworks
- Eligible to work in Canada (citizen, permanent resident, or post-graduate work permit holder)
- Strong English proficiency (spoken and written) for interaction with global colleagues
Important Assets:
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL and Cassandra)
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
- Cloud-based SaaS application development and GCP experience
- Experience in Agile/Scrum development teams with software development best practices (automated testing, code reviews, vulnerability management, DevOps)
- Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC)
- Knowledge of Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
- Strong collaborative and problem-solving skills
- Quality-driven and customer-focused mindset
