Candescent is a cloud-based digital banking solutions provider transforming how financial institutions deliver intelligent banking experiences. The company unites digital banking, account opening, and branch solutions across digital, remote, and in-person channels using an API-first, experience-led architecture.
You will join the Forge Design System (FDS) team as a Designer III, reporting to the Director of Design Operations. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on building, governing, and evolving the shared UI component library, interaction patterns, and design tokens that power Candescent's financial institution clients.
Key responsibilities include:
**Component Design & Library Management**: Design, document, and maintain Figma component libraries (currently 25+ components in beta, 16 published). Ensure Figma component properties align 1:1 with React Native code APIs. Own design of new components and interaction patterns (tables, tabs, forms, carousels) from concept through specification, partnering with senior reviewers on system-critical decisions.
**Token Architecture**: Support three brand presets (Poise, Prestige, Pulse) and future theme extensibility. Manage design tokens (color, typography, spacing, radius, shadows) via Figma variables with consistent naming across design and code.
**Cross-Platform Design**: Validate component behavior across breakpoints and device contexts. Design for mobile-first React Native/Uniwind stack rendering identically on iOS, Android, and Web. Account for platform-specific patterns while maintaining consistency.
**Governance & Contribution Intake**: Review and triage design contributions from product teams. Conduct design alignment reviews for component requests. Own federated contribution intake end-to-end, including async reviews with distributed teams.
**Documentation & Accessibility**: Maintain design guidance on the design system site. Coordinate with the Accessibility team on WCAG AA 2.1 audits. Triage accessibility feedback and track remediation to closure.
**Design QA**: Audit shipped components against Figma specs to catch drift. Partner with engineering to resolve discrepancies before release.
**Adoption Support**: Work with consuming teams to validate components, fill gaps, and support adoption across product areas.
Required qualifications: 4–6 years UX/UI design experience with strong focus on design systems or component libraries. Portfolio demonstrating systems-level thinking. Advanced Figma proficiency (components, variants, auto-layout, variables, Dev Mode, Code Connect). Experience designing for cross-platform environments (iOS, Android, Web). Strong understanding of design tokens. Working fluency reading front-end code (HTML, CSS/SASS, JavaScript, React) and using Figma Dev Mode to verify design-to-code parity.
Preferred: React Native design experience or close collaboration with React Native teams.
