Stuut is hiring a Design Engineer to own the full design and frontend implementation of its AI-powered accounts receivable platform. The role bridges product design and engineering, reporting to the Head of Product & Design and working alongside engineers and the Product Manager.
The core challenge is making complex financial workflows legible and trustworthy. Stuut's AI agents act on behalf of AR teams—sending outreach, triaging disputes, answering questions—while finance teams configure agent behavior through Playbooks, Payment Plans, and approval rules. Collectors work in dense, data-heavy worklists of invoices, customers, and cash. Your job is to design interfaces that make agents transparent and controllable, render thousands of invoices scannable in seconds, and make powerful configuration intuitive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own design and frontend end-to-end: Take product areas from customer problem to shipped code across the Stuut dashboard and payer-facing customer experiences.
- Make AI agents legible: Design how agent actions, reasoning, approvals, and audit trails display so finance teams trust automation with their cash.
- Tame data-heavy workflows: Make invoices, disputes, payment plans, cash application, and customer hierarchies scannable and fast without hiding advanced controls.
- Build the design system: Own Stuut's component library, tokens, and interaction patterns so engineers ship consistent UI by default.
- Settle debates with prototypes: Put working prototypes in front of customers in days, not weeks.
- Stay close to customers: Join calls with collectors, AR managers, and controllers; use product analytics to guide tradeoffs.
- Own post-launch quality: Craft, accessibility, performance, empty/loading/error states, instrumentation, and edge cases.
- Build with agents: Use coding agents daily to prototype and ship quickly, owning testing and debugging of their output.
Within 12 months, success means Stuut's core surfaces—agent activity, collections worklists, Ask Stuut, and configuration—share one coherent component system and interaction model. Engineers ship new UI from those patterns without waiting on design, and customers understand what Stuut's agents did, why, and what needs their approval.
Requirements:
- Shipped work: Portfolio demonstrating things you identified, designed, built, shipped, and learned from.
- Production frontend: Strong production experience with React and TypeScript; comfortable in large existing codebases.
- Design craft: Strong visual and interaction design; experience making complex, data-dense B2B products clear.
- Full-stack reasoning: Comfortable reasoning about APIs, data models, and implementation details, not just UI.
- Evidence-driven: Use customer research and product data to make and revise decisions.
- Agent-native: Use coding agents daily and can explain and stand behind their output.
- Startup mindset: Thrive in ambiguity at fast-growing startups with high ownership and incomplete information.
Nice to Have:
- Experience designing AI agent or copilot experiences (human-in-the-loop approvals, explainability, conversational analytics).
- Background in fintech, B2B payments, ERP, or AR/AP workflows.
- Built a design system or component library adopted by other engineers.
- Designed data visualization or operational dashboards.
- Built enterprise configuration surfaces (permissions, org hierarchies, rules engines).
