Pebl is a global work platform that enables companies to hire, pay, and manage employees across 185+ countries. This Design System Engineer role owns the architecture, strategy, and evolution of Pebl's design system end-to-end—spanning component libraries, token architecture, documentation, and design-to-code workflows across web and mobile surfaces. You will be responsible for designing and shipping production-ready components with rigorous attention to craft: well-defined states, variants, interaction models, responsiveness, and accessibility standards. Working in close partnership with frontend engineering and product teams, you'll ensure system decisions translate cleanly into code while maintaining shared ownership of quality and maintainability. Key responsibilities include creating clear, opinionated documentation and usage guidance; building governance models that balance system integrity with product velocity; conducting regular audits to identify gaps and inconsistencies; and leading the evaluation and integration of AI-powered design tooling (Figma AI, MCP integrations, Storybook MCP, generative workflows) into the system's build and consumption. You'll anticipate shifts in the product and tooling landscape, evolving the system proactively toward agentic workflows. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role where you'll shape the shared language every product team works from and influence how designers and engineers across the organization build together. You'll report directly to leadership and drive cross-functional initiatives that impact the entire design and engineering organization. Required: 7+ years of product design experience with at least 3 years owning or significantly contributing to a design system at a product company. You'll need an outstanding portfolio demonstrating systems-level thinking and component craft at scale; extraordinary visual design taste; expert-level Figma skills (component architecture, variables, tokens, auto-layout); comfort with design-to-code workflows; strong front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS, React); accessibility expertise; and excellent written communication for documentation. Bonus experience includes integrating AI tools into design workflows, open-source design system contributions, design-to-code automation tools, thought leadership in the design systems space, and background in enterprise SaaS or fintech environments.
