As a Design Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of design and code, prototyping and shipping experiences across IDEs, Git platforms, CLI, and web surfaces. You'll own the last mile of user experience—the pixels, motion, copy, latency, and edge cases that determine whether developers trust AI-generated suggestions enough to merge them.
Key responsibilities include: building production-quality UI components and interactions that make complex code analysis feel effortless; rapidly prototyping emerging AI experiences (real-time review, conversational feedback, agentic workflows) to validate ideas before full implementation; translating high-fidelity designs into pixel-perfect code while pushing design forward through technical innovation; setting and maintaining the bar for UI execution across the product with smooth interactions and thoughtful motion; building and maintaining a design system spanning Web, IDE extensions, Git platforms, and CLI surfaces; implementing clear, performant visualizations for code quality metrics and AI-generated insights; and helping define interaction paradigms native to AI and developer tools.
You should be equally fluent in Figma and your code editor, with deep skills in TypeScript, React, CSS, and animation. An obsession with craft is essential—you know what it takes to get from 90% to 100% polish. You ship fast and learn in the open, preferring to get something in front of users this week rather than perfect it for a month. You're AI-native in your work, using AI tools to extend your capabilities and viewing AI as a creative partner.
Ideal candidates have 2–5+ years in design engineering, front-end, or product design roles with a portfolio demonstrating both engineering rigor and visual craft. You've shipped complex technical products end-to-end in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and have experience building or contributing to design systems across multiple platforms. Nice-to-haves include experience at developer-focused companies (GitHub, Postman, Hasura), understanding of Git workflows, IDE extension experience (VS Code, JetBrains), Electron, cross-platform app development, AI/ML interface design, motion design, or open-source contributions.
