Salary: USD 145,000 - 207,000 / annual
Muon Space, a LEO satellite constellation company founded in 2021, seeks a Cybersecurity Compliance Lead to own and mature the organization's cybersecurity compliance program. This is a senior individual contributor role reporting to leadership, responsible for ensuring compliance against NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 frameworks, handling of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and export-control compliance (EAR/ITAR).
Key responsibilities include: serving as primary liaison to government cybersecurity teams and assessors; leading development and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs), Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and compliance documentation; establishing controls for CUI handling and storage; conducting security control assessments and gap analyses; driving remediation efforts to closure; partnering cross-functionally with IT, Security, Engineering, and Legal teams to embed compliance into systems and processes; and preparing the organization for third-party assessments and government accreditation efforts such as CMMC and RMF/ATO packages.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of cybersecurity compliance or information assurance experience, with demonstrated hands-on work at government-contractor organizations. Required expertise includes NIST 800-171/800-53 implementation and assessment, CUI handling, EAR/ITAR regulations, SSP/POA&M development, and RMF/ATO package experience. An active U.S. security clearance (TS/SCI preferred) is essential. Nice-to-have qualifications include CMMC readiness/certification leadership, DoD program support, DFARS/FedRAMP familiarity, and certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CAP.
