Kraken, a leading crypto platform founded in 2011 with over 10 million users globally, is seeking a Senior Counsel - Regulatory to join its Regulatory Legal team in the UK. This fully remote role focuses on maintaining and growing Kraken's product offerings across the EU and UK while advising the business on regulatory obligations. You will operate as a practical legal generalist with three primary focus areas: (1) Product advice covering Payward's growing UK offerings including Krak card, payments, and staking; (2) Cryptoasset Regime Compliance under the UK Cryptoasset Regime, advising on regulatory obligations for CASPs and managing regulatory queries and supervisory correspondence; and (3) Payments & e-money compliance, advising on regulatory obligations affecting e-money and payment accounts. Key responsibilities include providing legal support on cryptoasset, e-money, and payment services regulatory requirements; supporting active licensing applications and UK licensing workstreams; providing regulatory support on corporate transactions and structural changes affecting UK entities; supporting day-to-day regulator relationships for licensed entities; translating complex regulatory frameworks (UK Cryptoasset Regime, FCA rulebooks, AML/CTF, operational resilience requirements) into actionable guidance; and fostering clear, plain-English communication with measurable risk tradeoffs. You must be a qualified solicitor or barrister of England & Wales with 6+ years' post-qualification experience in financial services regulatory law, gained at a regulated financial services institution or law firm supporting such clients. Required experience includes direct FCA engagement, substantive knowledge of the UK Cryptoasset Regime, e-money and payment services regulation, AML/CTF compliance, and outsourcing/operational resilience compliance. You should demonstrate outstanding analytical and drafting skills, ability to distill complex issues into clear guidance for non-lawyers, and a pragmatic, commercially accountable approach to regulatory risk. Nice-to-haves include familiarity with the UK's onshored MiFID regime, experience with change-of-control notifications, and authentic interest in crypto and digital assets.
