Fluidstack is building civilization-scale compute infrastructure for AI, acquiring power, designing and operating data centers at gigawatt scale. The Legal team is being built from zero to support the largest compute buildout in history, with no inherited playbook—the systems and standards established now will define how the company operates for the next decade.
As Counsel, Energy, you will own the legal and commercial strategy for Fluidstack's power and energy infrastructure. You will structure, draft, and negotiate complex energy agreements including power purchase agreements (PPAs), interconnection and transmission agreements, on-site and behind-the-meter generation contracts, and utility infrastructure agreements. You will advise on energy regulatory matters across FERC, state public utility commissions, and organized markets (ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP), shaping the company's engagement with utilities and regulators as it brings gigawatts of load online.
You will run complex negotiations with sophisticated counterparties end to end, balancing legal risk against the speed the business demands. You will manage outside counsel across multiple disciplines with rigor on scope, quality, and spend. You will quarterback transactions cross-functionally with energy, site selection, development, and delivery teams to ensure deals never stall. As a strategic partner to business leaders, you will anticipate legal and commercial issues before they arise and have solutions ready.
The role requires an active law license and a track record of autonomously structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial agreements as lead counsel against sophisticated counterparties in areas directly relevant to powering data centers: PPAs, energy supply and hedging, interconnection and transmission, generation development, or utility infrastructure. You must have demonstrated sound judgment in high-stakes, ambiguous situations, with colleagues able to point to deals where your judgment changed the outcome. Experience managing outside counsel across multiple disciplines is essential. You should write and speak clearly, turning dense legal issues into decisions and next steps for executives and counterparties. Bonus experience includes a mix of law firm and in-house roles, using AI to improve legal work, or in-house experience at data center developers, cloud companies, utilities, or independent power producers.
