Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 / annual
Turion Space is building infrastructure for next-generation space operations, creating spacecraft for protecting, servicing, and sustaining the space environment for commercial, civil, and national security customers. The company is seeking an experienced, strategic Controller to build and lead the accounting function during rapid growth.
The Controller will own financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, and compliance. Key responsibilities include leading the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process; preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements; ensuring timely and accurate reporting to executive leadership, investors, lenders, and the Board; and maintaining the general ledger and chart of accounts.
The role encompasses accounting operations leadership across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, and General Ledger functions. The Controller will establish scalable accounting processes and workflows, ensure timely account reconciliations, and maintain financial accuracy.
Internal controls and compliance responsibilities include designing and maintaining strong internal controls and financial policies, coordinating annual financial statement audits and tax filings, partnering with external auditors and tax advisors, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements. Given the aerospace and defense context, the role includes supporting government contract accounting, grants, and cost-reimbursable programs, as well as maintaining cost accounting systems appropriate for manufacturing and engineering operations.
Systems and process improvement work involves leading ERP implementation and optimization initiatives, improving financial reporting automation and operational efficiency, and building documentation and standard operating procedures. The Controller will recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification; 10+ years of progressive accounting experience including leadership responsibilities; prior experience as Controller, Assistant Controller, or Manager of Accounting; strong U.S. GAAP knowledge; experience leading audits and managing external auditors; ERP implementation or management experience; and advanced Excel and financial systems proficiency.
Preferred qualifications include aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or hardware technology company experience; venture-backed or high-growth startup experience; government contracting and DCAA compliance experience; inventory accounting, standard costing, and project accounting familiarity; and experience with cloud ERP platforms like QuickBooks Online or NetSuite.
This is a full-time, exempt position based on-site in Irvine, California. The role may require support for alternate shifts, extended shifts, and travel during peak work periods. ITAR compliance is required; applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees, or be eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
