ResQ is seeking a Controller to own the accounting function across its Canadian parent company and U.S. subsidiaries. This is a high-autonomy role requiring full ownership of financial operations, accounting processes, and compliance as the company scales across North America.
Key responsibilities include overseeing daily accounting operations and financial reporting across all entities; leading monthly and annual financial close processes; conducting P&L and margin analysis across service lines, including cost of delivery and contractor economics; building and improving accounting processes and internal controls; managing accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and cash management; owning U.S. and Canadian tax obligations including nexus research, registrations, and sales tax filings; and supporting financial planning through cash flow forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses.
The ideal candidate brings a CPA designation (CPA Canada, CPA US, or equivalent) and 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller or senior accounting role. Deep knowledge of US GAAP or IFRS is required, with specific expertise in services and warranty-style revenue recognition. Direct experience managing multi-entity, multi-currency, cross-border U.S.-Canada accounting and consolidation is essential. Strong understanding of accounting controls, financial reporting, and close processes is critical. The role requires comfort operating independently and building structure where it doesn't yet exist, strong Excel and Google Sheets skills, and a proactive, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience with modern accounting platforms (Rillet, Campfire) or migrating from QuickBooks, and specific experience in trades, field services, or home services businesses. The company is currently on QuickBooks with plans to migrate to more scalable platforms as it grows.
