Northwood Space is seeking a Controller to serve as the financial backbone of a modern space infrastructure company. The role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on execution, requiring the successful candidate to design and implement financial systems, drive forecasting and planning, and provide executive-level insights to leadership and investors.
Key responsibilities include leading the in-house transition of accounting functions (monthly close, AP/AR, payroll management, revenue recognition), building and overseeing the company's financial infrastructure, implementing accounting strategies and internal controls, and partnering with leadership on business planning and capital strategy. The Controller will establish company-wide financial controls promoting accountability and responsible spending, recruit and mentor a growing finance team, and evaluate financial systems and tools that enable growth.
The role encompasses full accounting operations: processing vendor invoices and managing accounts payable, generating and tracking customer invoices and managing accounts receivable, reconciling accounts, resolving discrepancies, and supporting cash flow forecasting. The Controller will prepare financial reports for management review, support external audits and tax filings, and play a leadership role in shaping company culture around cost-awareness and ROI-driven decision-making.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (CPA or CMA preferred), 10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience including a prior controller or senior accounting role, proficiency with accounting software such as NetSuite, strong understanding of GAAP and ASC 606, and hands-on attention to detail. Experience in startup or manufacturing environments is strongly preferred. Prior experience in aerospace, satellite, telecommunications, or defense industries is a plus. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident due to ITAR compliance requirements.
