Maybern is a Series B fund accounting SaaS platform transforming private fund management through an AI-powered operating system. The company manages $15T in capital across the private fund industry and is scaling from 75 to 120+ employees.
You will be Maybern's first internal accounting hire, reporting to the Chief of Staff and Director of Strategy & Operations. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will own the entire accounting function from the ground up and grow into full controllership as the company scales toward Series C.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the monthly close process in partnership with external accounting firm, maintaining the general ledger, chart of accounts, reconciliations, and accounting policies
- Lead Maybern's first institutional audit, including auditor selection, pre-audit readiness, PBC preparation, and fieldwork management
- Ensure accurate revenue recognition under ASC 606 for enterprise SaaS contracts; partner with Strategic Finance Lead on CARR, ARR, and deferred revenue reconciliation
- Establish and own technical accounting positions including ASC 718 (stock-based compensation), ASC 350-40 (capitalized software development), and ASC 340-40 (deferred commissions)
- Optimize the accounting technology stack (QuickBooks, Carta, Rippling, Ramp, Runway) and recommend GL and infrastructure for the next 18-24 months
- Prepare monthly financial statements and board materials; support fundraising and investor diligence
- Collaborate across the business on financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic projects
Ideal candidates have 7+ years of accounting experience (4+ in Big 4 or equivalent, 2+ at high-growth SaaS), are CPA holders, and have hands-on experience with US GAAP standards, month-end/quarter-end close processes, financial systems implementation, and external audit management. You should be a self-starter who thrives in ambiguity, maintains meticulous attention to detail, and treats every task—from GL maintenance to board packages—with equal seriousness.
