MatX is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead the accounting function and ensure financial integrity, accuracy, and scalability as the company scales. This role serves as the guardian of financial data, driving transparency and supporting executive decision-making for investors and the Board. You will own the full monthly close and GAAP-compliant financial statements, oversee the accounting function (bringing it in-house from outsourced providers), and establish processes and internal controls appropriate for a fast-growing semiconductor/AI infrastructure startup. Key responsibilities include accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, treasury, fixed assets, and project accounting. A critical aspect of this role is semiconductor-specific accounting expertise. You will partner with Engineering and Operations to accurately account for R&D spend, wafer fabrication, tape-out costs, mask sets, non-recurring engineering costs, inventory, and multi-project wafer runs. You'll track tape-out milestones, manage inventory accounting end-to-end (including standard costing and excess/obsolete reserves), and support trade compliance and export control accounting (EAR/ITAR). You'll also manage foreign currency exposure from international fab, OSAT, and mask house payments. Additional responsibilities include payroll coordination with third-party providers, tax compliance and reporting across jurisdictions, R&D tax credit identification, and ERP readiness planning as MatX outgrows QuickBooks Online. You will serve as the primary accounting owner for audits, reviews, and investor diligence, and partner with the Finance Lead on financial reporting, Board materials, and strategic financial analysis including ROI, NPV, and cost-to-scale assessments. This is a hands-on role in an engineering-driven organization where financial rigor and operational excellence are critical to supporting rapid growth and investor confidence.
