Salary: USD 150,000 - 170,000 / annual
Funnel Leasing Inc. is seeking a Controller to lead all accounting operations and financial reporting for a venture-backed proptech SaaS company. This is a hybrid role based in the Odessa, Florida area (near Tampa Bay), requiring 1-2 days per week in the office with flexibility to work from anywhere in the US.
The Controller will oversee a team of 2-3 accounting staff members, including an Accounting Manager, and report to the SVP of Finance. Key responsibilities include:
**Financial Reporting & Analysis:** Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide strategic insights to leadership. Manage the annual external audit process and prepare financial reports for the executive team, board, and investors.
**Accounting Operations:** Supervise and mentor the accounting team. Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and monthly/quarterly/annual accounting and reporting. Ensure accuracy and integrity of all financial records. Identify and implement automation and efficiency improvements. Maintain and review accounting policies and procedures.
**Controllership Functions:** Oversee company taxes (sales and income), serve as key stakeholder for the tax firm, and manage Avalara for sales tax compliance. Implement and maintain strong internal controls. Manage treasury functions, including ROI optimization on excess cash, liquidity management, and cash projections.
**Strategic Planning & Growth:** Lead integration of accounting teams, records, and systems during acquisitions (approximately one per year). Participate in budgeting and long-term financial planning. Evaluate financial impact of business decisions and provide recommendations.
**Systems & Culture:** Own finance systems design and implementation to scale with company growth. Stay current on accounting and financial reporting standards. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. Travel 0-10% as needed.
**Requirements:** Bachelor's degree required. CPA license (active or inactive) required. 7+ years of accounting experience with demonstrated role progression. Public accounting experience strongly preferred. SaaS experience strongly preferred. Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets. Familiarity with QBO, Chargebee, RevRec, Teampay, Avalara, and Zuora preferred.
