Salary: USD 119,000 - 156,000 / annual
Element Biosciences is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join its in-house Legal Team, reporting to the Senior Director of Commercial Legal & Compliance. Based in San Diego, this role will provide comprehensive commercial and contract legal support across all company functions, with a focus on ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Key responsibilities include independently drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of agreements including NDAs, MTAs, Instrument Loan Agreements, Reagent Rental Agreements, and other commercial contracts supporting research and business operations. The role provides efficient, timely legal support to help the business achieve goals while mitigating risk. You will escalate and coordinate legal issues with appropriate internal stakeholders including Legal Counsel, Commercial, R&D, Operations, and Business Operations teams to facilitate resolution of contractual matters.
Additional responsibilities include providing Marketing Legal Review support for marketing collateral, publications, presentations, and customer-facing documentation. You will develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and ensure alignment with company goals and policies. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to advise on potential risks and mitigation strategies, helping develop and manage Legal's templates, playbooks, and procedures, and interfacing with global teams to anticipate legal needs.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and at least 6+ years of experience as a contracts manager or paralegal in the life sciences or biotechnology industry. Experience in life sciences and biotech fields is strongly preferred, and California notary status is a plus. Familiarity with data privacy matters is advantageous. Ideal candidates are highly organized, detail-oriented with strong contract drafting skills, adept at managing multiple shifting priorities in a dynamic environment, and possess excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities. Self-directed, proactive, and enterprising individuals with strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with colleagues and senior leadership are encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time, on-site position in San Diego with willingness to travel up to 10% of the time. Base compensation ranges from $119,000 to $156,000 annually, with eligibility for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no-cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
