Anthropic is scaling compute infrastructure internationally and seeks a Compute Country Lead to own the company's compute strategy and expansion in Canada. This is a high-trust, high-ambiguity leadership role responsible for bringing gigawatts of compute online across the country.
You will serve as the single accountable owner and cross-functional leader for Anthropic's Canadian compute buildout, from site selection through construction and operations. While specialist functions (leasing, energy, policy, construction, finance) are managed centrally by functional leads in San Francisco, you will provide in-country leadership, coordination, and accountability across all workstreams.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning end-to-end strategy and coordination for compute infrastructure development in Canada
- Serving as primary point of accountability for cross-functional workstreams: leasing, financing, energy, government relations, policy, community engagement, construction, and operations
- Providing working leadership to the in-country cross-functional team, driving alignment and unblocking issues
- Representing Anthropic externally with government officials, utilities, energy providers, and other stakeholders
- Building and maintaining relationships within Canadian government and energy industry
- Tracking progress and surfacing risks as the compute footprint scales from initial sites to multiple gigawatts
- Translating between global compute priorities and Canada-specific regulatory, political, and market conditions
Required qualifications:
- Canadian national with established government and energy industry connections (strongly preferred)
- Structured thinker who learns new domains quickly and goes deep fast
- Excellent communicator comfortable representing the company to senior government, utility, and industry stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct line authority
- Hyper-organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple concurrent workstreams
- Comfortable with ambiguity; problem solver who drives structure into undefined situations
- Background in energy, infrastructure, or related sector
Nice-to-have experience includes large-scale infrastructure or datacenter development, existing relationships with Canadian federal or provincial government bodies, capital-intensive project management, and familiarity with compute, cloud, or datacenter industries.
Minimum education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a field relevant to the role. Hybrid work expected with at least 25% time in office, though some roles may require more.
